Week 1 Day 4: The Soul

As we continue on this journey today we will go down the path of what is the soul. This is a tough topic and depending on religious views, you may or may not agree with me. What I am trying to do today is give a concept for what the soul is to me, based on my experience, in hope that you may better connect with your won soul. I am not trying to come up with any definite or absolute answers, I just want to help others learn what I am in the process of learning myself, so that we all may be happy and know we are already whole and complete! Ok with that being said let's dive in!

"For the soul there is neither birth nor death at any time. He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. He is unborn, eternal, ever - existing and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain." Hindu - Srila Prabhupada

Wow, this is pretty powerful. When I first read this I thought this is it! In a simple little paragraph this is what the soul is. It is the essence of life that has always existed and will continue to exist. For energy can neither be created nor destroyed. We may not always occupy this particular body, but the energy that we are, that we create will forever and ever continue to exist.

The soul is the self. In many religions soul means self. The term soul can be misleading as it implies an object possessed, whereas Self signifies the subject which perceives all objects. Each soul is an individual reflection of perfection. Since there can be no one perfect way due to the fact that perfection is based on perception, there is an endless reflection of perfection that comes from our creator. This "true self", "perfect self", "god self" is the soul that precedes the body. This energy form that you are has existed for eternity. Your soul proceeds your mind, which proceeds the body. The soul is the essence of life, it is the essence of who you are.

Your soul is who you are without fear, negativity, setbacks, physical ailments, without any imperfections. Your soul is the truth of you. Your soul is your intuition, your gut feelings, your strength, your courage, your love. Your soul provides with all you need at all times. It is your connection with your higher power, the universe, to each other, to you!

How to connect with your soul Meditation:

Again find a quiet place to sit, feet flat on the floor, palms facing up and eyes closed. Begin to pay attention to your breath. Let it flow in and out on its own, just pay attention to it. Is it short breath? Long breaths? is your heart rate picking up? Just acknowledge, notice and breathe. Begin to relax. Pay attention to your feet, connect with the ground and let the energy of the universe come up through your feet. Breathe and relax. Once you feel relaxed I want you to draw your attention to your belly button, now two inches below it, suck in you tummy real tight. Hold it in and continue to breath and relax. You should begin to feel fire here. This is your feeling nature, this is your connection with your soul. Feel that fire inside, connect with it. Connect with the truth. You are already whole and perfect. You are an individual reflection of perfection. Now picture that fire in your belly as a bright white light. Picture it in the center of your body radiating light out. Your organs are lit up, your veins, you heart, your throat, your face, you arms and legs and hands and feet. Picture this light radiating and pulsating the love of your true self in and out of your body. Picture yourself surrounded by this light as it radiates out of your finger tips, your toes, your head. Now connect this light with all that surrounds you. Feel the essence of your soul, your true self, of the universe and all that surrounds you. Begin to feel how you are connected to your surroundings. Breathe and connect. Let the light shine form the inside out, fill yourself with love, happiness, hope and faith. Let your soul shine!
